Project Summary

Client:
Townsville City Council
Price Range:
approx $1 million
Location:
Nelly Bay, Magnetic Island
Date Completed:
31st July 2008

This was a Design and Construct project completed in conjunction with Robinson Civil Contractors for Townsville City Council (TCC).  It was an extension to an existing walkway (designed by this office) delivered by a systems engineering approach with an "open book" contractural arrangement with TCC.  After commissioning with TCC, monthly meetings, collaborative risk assessments and whole of life assessments determined the final scope of the project.  The final design and construction was approximately 120m of walkway on the seaward side of Nelly Bay.  Extensive discussions were held with TCC and geotechnical consultants to determine the most appropriate alignment, construction materials and methodology and design to suit an unstable sloping site.  To minimise maintenance, suspended walkways were composite fibre and all metal components were stainless steel.
